  Creation care event planned

  “Work, Eat, Pray,” a monthly creation care event, will be held from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday, June 27, at Mount Etna station on the Lower Trail. New faces and hands are always appreciated. Volunteers will plant trees and shrubs, remove invasive species, share a bring-your-own picnic lunch, and read Evening Prayer from the Book of Common Prayer, all in the beauty of God’s creation. Participants are invited to help with the work or attend just to eat or to pray or all three. Tools and plants will be provided.

  Vacation Bible school set

  The Patton Trinity United Methodist Church, 501 Beech Ave., Patton, will hold a vacation Bible school, Wilderness Journey, from 5:30 to 8:10 p.m. June 21-25. For more information and to register, call Pam at 814-247-9967 or Sue at 814-248-0058.

  Chicken barbecue dinner to be served

  St. John the Evangelist Church, Lakemont, will hold a

  drive-thru chicken barbecue dinner from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

  Sunday, June 27. Dinners are $10 and include 1/2 chicken, baked beans, applesauce and roll. Pick up available at Knights of Columbus, 324 Bedford St., Hollidaysburg. Proceeds benefit the twin parish of Ss. Peter and Paul in Haiti.

  For tickets, call the parish office at 814-942-5503 or stop in at 309 Lotz Ave., Altoona, between 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday. Tickets will also be sold after all Masses. Masses are held at 4 p.m. Saturdays, 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. Sundays.

  Free lunches offered

  — Providence Presbyterian Church, 2401 Broad Ave., Altoona, will hand out bagged lunches from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday, June 19. Lunch will include a sandwich, chicken noodle soup, a dessert and fruit. One bag lunch per person will be handed out in the church’s parking lot for drive-thru and walk-ups while supplies last. A member of the church will deliver lunches to vehicles.

  — The Second Avenue United Methodist Church, 130 Second Ave., Altoona, will offer free lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., or while supplies last, Saturday, June 19. All are welcome. For more information, call 814-943-2072.

  Summer Bible Conference to begin

  Liberty Bible Church, 2840 Chalybeate Road, Cessna, will hold a Summer Bible Conference June 18-20. The theme of the conference is “Here’s What I’ve Been Learning.” Speakers include Tracy Plessinger, Dan Gross, Mark Markley and Bob Beam.

  Saturate Altoona continues Sunday

  The community is invited to Saturate Altoona, a June Sunday night summer series at Heritage Plaza.

  The event will be held from 5:30 to 8 p.m. each Sunday in June. Blessing tents will be open from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., where city churches will be giving away free food, including hot dogs, snowcones, popcorn, water, soda and coffee.

  The service from 6:30 to 8 p.m. will feature worship bands, city pastors and a different prayer focus each Sunday — businesses, education, health care and city government.

  The event is presented by the Blair County Pastor’s Network and Joy in the City.

  Food pantry distribution changed

  The food pantry distribution at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, Eighth Avenue and 13th Street, Altoona, will be held from 2 to 5:30 p.m. Thursday, July 1. This distribution was originally scheduled for June 24, but was changed due to scheduling conflicts. In addition, the regular distribution set for July 29 will go on as planned. Distribution is on a drive-thru basis to maximize social distancing. Masks are required for those on foot or getting out of their vehicles. All are welcome.
